well, i've been asked several times (more so recently), how do i do the borders on my photos. i looked and looked long ago and found quite a few 'border making tutorials' but i either couldn't follow them due to my lack of photoshop knowledge, or the text in the tutorial itself was difficult to read, to small or too fancy.

now, believe it or not, some people do find it difficult to do things in photoshop (so if you're an expert, please don't bother complaining). since i don't mind sharing my 'secrets', i've put together this tutorial to show you the SIMPLE way to frame your images... hopefully you'll find it easy to read and simple to follow.

please feel free to provide feedback.. OR, send me some links to work you've framed using this tutorial! i'd love to see it
(p.s. this is the first tutorial i've ever made, so be nice to me).
cheers,
cath

edit note: this tutorial is now participating in the ~photoshoptutors border tutorial comp. for more information, please visit here.

edit note 2: =Sun-Seeker suggested that GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) might be a good, free to download alternative to photoshop. you can find it at this [link] i'm not sure how it works myself, but it might be a handy alternative for those of you who don't have photoshop!

I would've thought people'd know how to do something so simple...

*sigh* I wish I had Photoshop. :(
Man I don't have photoshop! Oh well.
Ooo, this WILL come in handy...:+fav:'s
know what a really really simple way to do it is?
just adjust the canvas size to .5 centimeters larger (there's a ratio option) and create a new layer behind the image and fill it in black.
then for the white line select all (image), control shift 'i', expand 2 pixels.. new layer, fill in white.

that's kind of what you're saying but i never use those tools you mention :P

anyway

nice easy to follow tutorial. im sure there's a lot of people who appreciate this :)

Did you hear about the guy whose whole left side was cut off? He's all right now.
I actually just extend the canvas with which ever colours I might use, by 2pix for the white and then more for the second but the tutorial is clear and well done for a new user.

that's a good and simple way to i guess, but the beauty of the way i do it, is that step 2 can be adjusted for different effects, once people have a little confidence to play :D thanks for the feedback hun
